Initial guide prepared remotely — site inspection to follow.

Thank you for sharing the details of your proposed roofing works. Based on your enquiry and the available property images, this initial guide outlines the proposed slate roof renewal before arranging a site visit.

Initial Assessment

Your enquiry describes a slate roof requiring relaying and new underlay. The proposed works comprise carefully stripping the main pitched roof, assessing the existing slates for reuse, renewing the underlay and battens, and relaying suitable retained slates. Roof area and the extent of works remain subject to measurement and inspection.

The roof dimensions, access requirements, slate condition and availability of matching replacement slates remain subject to a site inspection.
Site inspection will confirm the roof specification and any additional requirements.

Proposed Roofing Works

Strip and Relay Existing Slates

Carefully remove and assess the existing slates, retaining those suitable for reuse. Install new breathable roofing membrane and treated battens, then relay the suitable retained slates with appropriate fixings. The replacement slate allowance will be confirmed following inspection.

Slate Condition

If inspection finds that extensive slate replacement is necessary, we will discuss an alternative specification and price before preparing the detailed quotation.

Slate reuse is subject to condition and availability of suitable matching replacements.
Chimney leadwork and roofline renewal are not included at this stage; any requirements will be identified during the site visit.

Scope of Works

The proposed scope allows for:

• Supply, erection and dismantling of suitable scaffolding.

• Careful removal of the existing slates, underlay and battens within the agreed main roof area.

• Inspection of the exposed roof timbers.

• New breathable roofing membrane and treated roofing battens.

• Appropriate roof ventilation and eaves detailing.

• Relaying suitable retained slates with appropriate fixings.

• Ridge and abutment detailing to be confirmed following inspection.

• Removal of waste arising from the works and leaving the working areas tidy.
